Sewer for the Town of Newfane is a one unit flat rate charge of $65.84 per single family home for each four month billing period.
A water tap 1” and larger is $500.00 + materials. Additional materials will be billed after service is installed.
A sewer tap is $1,000. An additional sewer tap fee of $1,100 (subject to change) will be charged if a push is required. For more information, please contact the Water and Sewer Department at 716-778-8132, extension 6.
The Town of Newfane bills three times per year (or every four months). You are given 21 days to pay your bill.

A payment drop box is located on the north side of Town Hall to the right of the door for convenience in paying your bill. The box is checked daily for payments. Returned Check Fee is $20.00. Accepted forms of payment include cash and check.
Tax Removal Dates
On August 1 of each year, all unpaid balances will be removed to the following year's County tax bill. At that time, a 10% tax removal fee will be added to your outstanding balance.
Long Term Vacancy
Request to Discontinue Water and Sewer Billing and Service
Any property that will be vacant for at least one year, and is not on the market for sale, can have water and sewer charges temporarily discontinued. Before billing ceases, a form must be signed and notarized, the meter must be removed from the property and the water must be turned off at the curb box by Town of Newfane Water Department personnel. The minimum charge for water and/or sewer will continue for one month from the date the meter was removed. Service can be reinstated at any time with a request in writing from the property owner. Billing then starts as of the date the meter was installed.
Town Ordinance requires a dual check backflow preventer valve and a potable expansion tank to be installed and inspected prior to sale. A final reading must be taken before closing. These are the seller’s responsibility.
New York State Department of Environmental Conservation requires the Town of Newfane Sewer Department to inspect all sewer connections once every five years. This is an ongoing procedure that began in 2003. The purpose of these inspections is to determine whether ground water is infiltrating our sanitary sewer system by illegal sump pump connections, downspouts connected to the sanitary sewer, vent pipes cut off at grade allowing surface water to drain into the sanitary sewer or any other means that allow groundwater to be infiltrated into the sanitary sewer. All groundwater that enters our sanitary sewer system gets treated as wastewater which is an enormous expense to you, our sewer customers.
Please be sure the Town of Newfane’s Water and Sewer Department has your phone number on file. This makes the scheduling process for sewer inspections and meter installation much easier and enables us to call you if we suspect there may be a problem due to your water usage.
Sewer Trap Vent Pipes
All sewer vent pipes and cleanout pipes shall be kept at a minimum height of 12” above grade. This is to comply with NYSDEC regulations to avoid groundwater infiltration into the Town Sewer System.
Please comply with the following guidelines when disposing waste:
- Regulation 30 gallon cans or heavy duty plastic bags only. NO paper bags, boxes, drums or barrels will be emptied.
- Six regulation containers per week, per unit.
- Refuse containers including contents cannot exceed 60 lbs.
- Fence, carpet, wood, etc. must be cut to 4’ lengths and be bundled and tied.
- Branches and limbs can be disposed of by calling Newfane Highway Dept. at 716.778.8844 and requesting the town chipper.
- Leaves, clippings, etc. will be picked up if contained in a regulation container or bag, and does not exceed the weekly limit.
- Windows must have the glass removed from the frame. Glass must be contained.
- All items must be contained with the exclusion of large items. No piles of refuse will be picked up.
Items for waste collection that are unacceptable, over limit or over weight will be tagged with a notice and left curbside. Items for recycling collection that are unacceptable will also be tagged with a notice and left curbside.

Modern Disposal recognizes the following holidays: New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day. If the holiday falls on or before your regularly scheduled pickup day, your pickup will be delayed by one day. If the holiday falls after your regularly scheduled pickup day, there will be no change in pickup.
All refuse and recycling must be curbside by 6:00 a.m.
